Minehead Town CouncilThe Councillors
The Council has sixteen members, representing four Wards: Minehead North and Minehead South, which each have five members; and Alcombe East and Alcombe West, which have three members each. The boundaries of these Wards are decided by population to give fairly even representation and elections to the Council are held every four years. Currently, seven Town Councillors are also members of the West Somerset Council.
Each year in May an Annual General Meeting is held when the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Committees are elected. Each Councillor sits on at least two committees, with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor being members of all.
The Committees
The Committees are as follows: Amenities & General Purpose, Finance & Staffing, Planning and Policy & Development. Planning Meetings are held monthly but all other Committees meet four times a year. Agendas and Minutes are available for the public to read in The Council Information Point. There are also a number of other sub-committees or working parties, a number of which include representatives from other town groups.
The Meetings
All meetings take place at The Council Chamber at Minehead Town Hall, The Parade, and are advertised on the notice board outside the Town Hall. The press and public are invited to attend meetings of the Town Council and are able to view all public information, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Alternatively, you are able to view Minutes and Agendas online. Click here to go the relevant section.
The Town Council welcomes comments from members of the public. You can either contact your local Councillor directly, contact the Town Clerk or attend meetings and speak during public participation.
