Council ServicesOne of the things that many residents find unclear is exactly which Council – Town, District or County – is responsible for what in the town. As a very rough guide:
Town Council
The town council has responsibility for:
AMENITY AREAS
Irnham Road Recreation Ground, King George V Playing Field, Cross Farm Park, Periton Playing Field and Alcombe Marsh Common including the Rose Garden, Culvercliffe Play Area and Alcombe Combe.
The Public Conveniences at Irnham Road Recreation Ground will be CLOSED on CHRISTMAS DAY, BOXING DAY and NEW YEARS DAY.

ALLOTMENTS

CEMETERY AND MEMORIAL
Minehead Cemetery is on the Porlock Road at Woodcombe. We also maintain the closed churchyard at St. Michael’s Church on North Hill and the War Memorials in Minehead and Alcombe. For other information contact The Town Hall on 01643 707213. Click Here

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
Each year we organise the town’s Christmas lights, including the tree in Wellington Square and traders’ purchases of trees for above their premises.
FLOWERS
Organising floral displays in the town, including traders’ purchase of hanging baskets and other displays (except for the large beds and Parade planters which are provided by the District Council). Contact the Council 01643 707213 for more information.

ENTERTAINMENT
During this year the remit of the Entertainments Committee will be reviewed by the Amenities & General Purposes Committee
GRANTS
Small grants of up to £300 each can be made to community and voluntary organisations for specific projects.
NOTICEBOARDS
Five noticeboards are maintained for the display of community information – outside the Town Hall, at the gates of Blenheim Gardens, at Irnham Recreation Ground and at Alcombe.
District Council
The District Council is responsible for civic services and administers Council Tax collection, housing benefits, and other environmental services such as refuse collection and recycling.
